Strengthen Your Resume

Even if you have great skills and qualifications, finding a good job with a decent salary can still be challenging. If you aren't getting interviews, it's time to strengthen your resume. If you're submitting the same cookie-cutter resume over and over again, it's time to learn how to analyze a job posting and customize your resume for each position you want.

This workshop is for people who want to update, revise, or completely overhaul their resumes. We'll discuss formatting and decide which of three resume styles is best for you. We'll address each resume section separately and leave time for lots of questions.

Writing A LinkedIn Summary

Whether you're job hunting or not, a LinkedIn profile is a must for marketing yourself professionally. Yet most people have unremarkable profiles with Summaries that are boring, too formal, hyperbolic - or missing!

This workshop will focus solely on the Summary or "ABOUT" Section. Located below the headline, it offers an excellent opportunity to target decision-makers, differentiate yourself from the competition, and toot your own horn.

We'll examine a smorgasbord of Summaries that "pop" and the specific techniques used to grab the reader's attention, increase your search visibility, showcase your personality, and inspire you to improve your own!

Elevator Pitch - don't wing it!

A proven way to make a positive first impression and spark interest from strangers is a well-crafted "Elevator Pitch."

Simply put, an Elevator Pitch is a friendly, targeted, short introduction that shares relevant information about you. It's not a sales pitch or a full reply to "Tell Me About Yourself"; it can serve as the "opener" to either one. It's your response to "So, what do you do?" and may start a conversation if both parties are interested.

This workshop will demonstrate formulas for developing an Elevator Pitch that captures attention and can be adapted to a cocktail party, a job fair, or to welcome a new colleague. As an opening introduction, your Elevator Pitch can be tweaked for LinkedIn, cover letters, emails, and cold calling.

Be Interview Ready

Even though people hate interviewing, it's hard to opt-out if you want to succeed professionally. Employers want to recruit articulate candidates who can confidently field questions.

Interviewing can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be as daunting as most people think. You can learn what to expect, how to prepare, and the protocol for following up.

"Be Interview Ready" demystifies the interviewing process: it covers the screening interview, the meeting with H.R., and the follow-up interview with the decision-maker who could seal the deal on the spot.

Thinking About A Career Change

These days, many adults are switching careers or industries. For those with years of accumulated knowledge and skills, there's no need to reinvent yourself. Instead, turn what could be a long and stressful ordeal into a vigorous and successful transition.

The workshop will take you on a "scenic journey" through your work history to assess your interests, values, and skills from your past jobs. It will also steer you in the right direction as you initiate a job search to pursue positions for which you are qualified.

Job Search: Keep The Momentum Going

Looking for a job is lonely. We stay in our apartments too often, stuck in front of the TV or refrigerator. This workshop allows us to exchange information, learn from each other, and receive support. If you wonder what to do next—or what works—you can bet that someone in the group has new information and a tested strategy to offer.

We'll pool our resources, ask questions of each other, and share our collective wisdom as job seekers. We'll network and leave energized to "keep the momentum going."
